Things in Saratoga Springs, NY.

I live in this small resort city in New York, Saratoga Springs. The population is roughly 28,000 and horse racing is HUGE. I absolutely love it here, it's beautiful and full of great things to see and do. I'm so happy my family and I could move back to such a fantastic town! I figured since I haven't got much to do I would show my followers around this nifty little town!

In the art district there is a place called the Mimosa Gallery. It is super cute, it's not your typical gallery. They feature handbags, jewelry, glass, ceramics, furniture, clothing, etc. It's really amazing. This place has something like 50 local artists who supply this gallery, it's awesome and I highly recommend it.

There are 17 public springs in Saratoga Springs and people regularly drink from them. The springs are naturally carbonated and no two springs taste alike. Some are a bit gross and located on islands of mineral stones while others are pretty will kept. Like the Hawthorn Spring (on the corner of Spring and Putnam), it's beneath a pavilion and I watch folks fill up their water bottles weekly. Seriously, a line of elderly people bring their gallon jugs and fill 'em up. Each spring has a list of issues that it is supposed to cure from obesity to kidney disorders, skin diseases and generally flushing toxins from your body.

Congress Park, it's breathtaking. And you can ride on the historic carousel for a buck, hello! ONE DOLLAR! The kids love that!

In this horse racing town there are 24 horse sculptures, and buy sculptures I mean 24 brightly painted or decoupaged from ice cream cones to real estate maps.

On Wilton Greenfield Rd in Saratoga there is a vacant lot, I believe it's currently on the market for nearly $400,000 but there is a waterfall that runs through the land, a stream, and lots of huge old trees. I used to take my daughter when we lived here three years ago but now I'm pretty sure they're trying to build some sort of housing development... where do you think I got the picture?!
Let's not forget the Race Track! The track is the reason this town stays so wealthy! Touristy people come here and drop big bucks on places to stay during racing season and it 's a popular vacation destination. You can stay at the Dancing Rooster for $1,500-$3,500 a night or a personal home for $6,000 a week during racing season. During the off season you can get a cute room at The Gideon for about $160 a night AND it's super close to my house :) P.S. The Spa at The Gideon is outstanding!

The Saratoga State Park is something outstanding all together. It's called 'The Publics Resort." Not only is it great because of the Saratoga Preforming Arts Center (SPAC), the cultural hub of upstate New York, but within the state park there is a fancy restaurant, a car museum, a golf course, the museum of dance, and the homemade movie theater. I actually have to drive through the park to get to my house from the Northway, it's a real treat.

I suppose I should wrap this up, it's getting awfully long. But I challenge you to do a post about your town, I would love to see where you live! it's like getting a mini vacation. Now... COME VISIT ME!
